Jennifer Perkin’s
educational career spans over 27 years at the school, administrative and board
levels. She has experience as a teacher in elementary and secondary schools, a
guidance counsellor, a curriculum consultant and a principal. Her extensive
background in curriculum includes writing, reviewing and coordination, as well
as responsibility for board-wide implementation of policy and curriculum
initiatives for elementary and secondary education.

Elizabeth Lesnik has over 20 years of experience in the mental health sector. She holds a Masters’ Degree in Social Work from McMaster University. She has been a teaching assistant at McMaster University and has provided instructional work to second year students in the application of theory to practice. Clinically, Elizabeth has worked in child protection, children’s mental health, addictions, day treatment programming for adolescents with dual diagnosis and numerous elementary and secondary school settings. Elizabeth has extensive experience in running workshops and training sessions.
Relationships In Schools: Making Them Work Tom Ranger's
career in children’s mental health spans 35 years. He has worked with
children and families in residential care, psychiatric hospitals,
school based programs and outpatient therapeutic settings. He has been
a trainer and developed programs in anger management, parent education
and specialized class room programming.

Faddis never realized when she began teaching, that a great portion of
her teaching career would involve working with behavior students.

Doug Hamilton Doug Hamilton has been the
Director for the Master of Arts Program in Distributed Learning at Royal Roads
University, the Director of the Master of Arts Program in Leadership and
Training Program at RRU.Before assuming the director ’s role,he taught

Ann McClure
began her teaching career after several years working in business. Although her
beginning year was a positive experience, the following year Ann started a New
Teacher Committee to assist teachers joining the school staff. Ann’s
interest in teacher induction was the basis for her thesis “Beneficial
Induction Practices Cited by First Year Teachers”. This research was
acknowledged in May 2004 with the Canadian Association Teacher Education Master
of Education Award. Currently Ann works for the Simcoe County District School
Board as a Curriculum Consultant. In this role she frequently works with
beginning teachers. Ann is also currently working toward a Ph.D. with the
Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto in the area of
Teacher Development.
Action Research
for Teaching Excellence
Jacqueline Delong is a Superintendent of Education in the
Grand Erie District School Board. Her experience as an educator includes
secondary school teacher and department head, union president and governor,
coordinator of special education services, elementary principal, superintendent
and university lecturer. Jacqueline completed her doctorate in educational
action research in 2002. She now presents to educators at local, national and
international levels. Her interests include travel, golfing and sailing. She is
an active volunteer as Past Chair of the Hospital Board, Past President of the
Ontario Educational Research Council and mother to two wonderful adult
children.
Cheryl Black has been
an elementary school administrator for five years. Before that she taught
secondary school instrumental and vocal music. Seven years ago she completed
her first action research project and since then has facilitated the research
of many teachers. She has a Master’s Degree from Brock University and has
been accepted into the M.Phil/PhD program at the University of Bath in the
United Kingdom. She has presented at the annual meeting of the American
Educational Research Association.
 Ron
Wideman is Associate Dean of Education at Nipissing University in North
Bay, Ontario. Prior to joining the Nipissing University faculty in 1996, Ron
served in a variety of roles including secondary school history teacher, school
board curriculum co-ordinator, Ministry of Education official, and TVOntario
curriculum project manager. His doctoral thesis was among the first to explore
change from the perspective of the secondary school teacher. Dr. Wideman is a
strong supporter of action research and has authored a wide range of published
works focusing on educational change and teacher professional
growth.

Family Enriched Mathematics
Andrew
Morrison has taught in the Bachelor of Education program at Nipissing
University. While an elementary teacher, Andrew organized and presented
parent involvement workshops. In addition to local sessions, he created
and chaired the first major conference for parents in mathematics
education. Andrew is a frequent speaker at conferences for mathematics
educators. He also instructs professional development courses for
teachers in mathematics education. Andrew received his Bachelor of Arts

Lee Sparling graduated from Nipissing University with a
Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology and a Bachelor of Education.She also
obtained her Mathematics Specialist through Nipissing University. She became
interested in mathematics early in her teaching career when it

negative attitude towards math and displayed low self-confidence in their
abilities. She decided that the same ‘balanced ’ approach, that has
been implemented in literacy programs, should be applied to math. She developed
the Balanced Mathematics Program to create a cooperative learning math

John Fioravanti ’s experience of twenty-nine years in the
classroom includes nineteen years as a high school history department head. He

Steve
Russell studied at the University of Western Ontario and the Banff Centre

Lisa Abernethy has taught mathematics at the high school level,
tutored students from Grades 6 to 12, provided in-service to pre-service

for the implementation of the new classroom assessment and numeracy initiatives
(K to 12). She has represented the local Ontario Association for Mathematics
Education chapter (MAC2) at the provincial level, been MAC2 president and was
involved in writing, scoring and editing the Mathematics Exemplars for the
Ministry of Education.
Bill Morrison has taught mathematics
(Grades 9 to 12) for 29 years, been a department head of mathematics for 21
years and served as a curriculum consultant in mathematics. He has co-authored
mathematics textbooks and developed software for mathematics education. Bill
was the inaugural president of the Mathematics Association for Cottage Country
and chapter representative to OAME. Under his leadership, the Barrie North
mathematics department won the Ken Fryer award in 1998. This award is given
annually to an outstanding secondary school mathematics department.
Meeting The Needs of
Hard-To-Serve Students Linda Ebruk began her career behind bars,
teaching young offenders in a maximum security setting. She went on to manage a
remedial program in an inner city housing development. After completing
doctoral studies she worked for the federal parole board with hard-to-serve
adults, furthering her goal of helping people build on their strengths to turn
their lives around. Recently she taught in a Strict Discipline Program for
students who had been expelled. Dr. Linda Ebruk is now a policy analyst with
the Ontario Ministry of Education.
Teach and
Assess Visual Arts: Grades 7-8
Hondo Varep has
been a visual arts educator for over twenty five years. His experience as a
curriculum writer is extensive and he has been a member of numerous
consultative committees on arts education. Hondo has been the visual arts
teacher and facilitator at the Ontario Education Leadership Centre for grades 7
and 8 for a number of years,and he also designs sets for community theatre,as
well as creating logos, posters and illustrations for a variety of groups and
organizations. Hondo ’s personal work is in many private collections and
